As I got ready for the arrival of my second baby, I found myself wanting to clear out my entire house! I was in full nesting mode, which if you’re a mom, you can relate. Let’s clear out my daughter’s old stuff, let’s organize the kitchen…finally, and let’s organize my business so it can run while I am in labor!
I remember feeling the same way when I was pregnant with our daughter. Was it just the pregnancies or was it because of the major life changes about to happen to my family?
Well during a Strong Retirement Cub Event, I asked the women to write down their “refinement” goals. If you follow us, you already know refinement is our new term for retirement. It’s about refining your life, not sticking with the old notions of retirement, but finding a better way to live. You can learn more by reading my newest best selling book: TIME to REFINE.
One of my club member’s goals was to de-clutter her house. All of the members started agreeing with her! We came to a conclusion, an epiphany, a life changing idea!
Before you enter any change in your life, any new chapter, you should de-clutter your life! What do I mean by this? Do a life audit, and get rid of the negative stuff, the worthless junk, and the stuff that just takes up space in your house and life.
HOUSE:
Let’s begin with your house assessment. You can go through the rooms and see what you can get rid of, what needs to be organized (for me the junk drawer, just ask my hubby!), and refresh them! Go into your clothing closet and remove anything you haven’t worn in 6 months to a year. Go through your pantry and get rid of those cans that have been sitting there the past decade. It’s 2020 and time for new cans!
BUSINESS:
Next do a business/career deep dive! Reflect on your strengths and your weaknesses. What worked well for you the past year and decade versus what didn’t work well. What work connections and relationships have been mutually beneficial versus which ones sucked the life out of you? Focus on what makes you profitable, and what makes you feel good at the end of the day. Stick with those two dynamite combinations, and this new decade will show your most growth. Passion and profit are a lethal combo, trust me!
RELATIONSHIPS:
Do I really need to do a relationship audit? YES! We touched on relationships with work, but take a look at all your relationships. When you think of happy, inspiring, and positive people, who do you picture? Keep those people around! When you think of anger, resentment, and negativity, who do you think of? Time to get rid of those people or put boundaries around them.
MONEY:
What money baggage have you been carrying around for too long? When do you feel bad about your money? Can you get deep enough to find the story behind these negative feelings? Maybe it was an experience from your childhood. You might be carrying these negative money stories with you, and it’s time to clear them away. Write down your strengths with money and write down when you want to run and hide from your money. For the times you want to run away, find a professional to help you with them. If you steer clear of money, you need someone who will make sure it is taken care of!
How much cleaner or clear headed would you feel going into a new chapter with everything clean and cleared out?
You make room for NEW opportunities in your life, and dare I say BETTER opportunities. But if you continue doing the same things, with the same people, you aren’t leaving any room for change. Clear out your house, business, relationships, money, and even time to allow for new and better. Are you with me?
If you’re interested in de-cluttering your life, I encourage you to join us on February 27th for our Annual Wine Tasting Night! A night dedicated to refocusing, re-prioritizing, and regrouping for 2020!
